Art and Culture Raipur Chhattisgarh

Raipur is very popular due to its rich culture. Fairs, religious beliefs and festivals, show its traditional ways of life. Raut Nacha (folk dance of cowherds) is one of the most important dance forms of the Raipur region. The city has its own dance and music styles; Sohar, Pandwani, Bihav and Pathoni songs are very famous in the city. Sohar song is sung at the time of child’s birth, whereas Bihav song is sung on the occasion of marriages. Lorik-Chanda, Gonda, Sonha-Bihan Kari, Hareli, Chandaini and Gammatiha are very popular folk dance forms of the city. Women wear colorful dresses (usually Lugda and Polkha) with lovely ornaments. Suta, Bali, Phuli, Baandha, Patta and Choora are famous decorative items worn by the women of Raipur, whereas men wear Kadhah and Koundhi on special functions.

 



Raipur Festivals:- Some prominent festivals celebrated in the city are Teeja, Hareli, and Gouri-Goura. All of these festivals are celebrated with high level of devotedness and warmth. Hareli is celebrated in the month of Shravan (July-August) and farmers worship their cows and farm equipment in this festival. Teeja is the festival of women, as married women pray for the well-being and longevity of their husband, on this occasion. Sarhul, Diwali, Karma, Kartika and Navakhani are also celebrated in Raipur.
